Blog Across Argentina

I had the best time ever on Antarctic trip.  Setting my first step on the continent is exciting and overwhelmed.  The weather had been nice through out the trip which is very unusual. The captain said that it never occurs for his entire career.  The last two days of sailing through the notorious Drake Passage was surprisingly calm.  The ship rocked with the east swell and west gale, but was relatively light.  It just happened that we were behind the wind….when we arrived a certain area…the wind was already calm…it was like this all the trip.  We are blessed.

Nothing is exciting here except having my passport stamped.  The people at the info center are very enthusiastic.

I find the sky and clouds in Antarctica is the most beautiful picture in the world.

The elephant seals fought as soon as we landed on the island as if they were showing off.  They attacked each other on the strong neck and created loud and power sounds.  The fight last only few minutes but they fight often to protect their harem and territories.

As we passed the Antarctic convergence (where warm tide meets cold tide) the water was calm and there were icebergs everywhere.  All of them are pristine.  The fascinating blue casued by the light reflection through the tiny pores and condensed CO2 (for thousands of years).  How amazing the nature is!!!

The sky in Antarctic is so colorful.  The pearly red sky is gorgeous.  The unpolluted air, dryness and angle are the key to this stunning beauty.  I enjoy seeing the changes very much.  Rembrandt must have learned how to paint from the mother nature.

“Am I handsome”…asked this cute mean looking rocky penguin.  His long yellow eyebrow makes him similar to the Macaroni penguin.  He is smaller and lives in warmer temperature island like Falkland.  They were busy building nest when I visited them.
